DIY

Do-it-yourself – the battle cry of our time! Gone are the times in which commercials promised a free Sunday for housewives, except the complicated electrical machines, everything, really everything is following the DIY-doctrine... and we go for it. The hardware stores are full, the television consists almost exclusively of cooking shows and we commit ourselves to Pepakura, the paper craft fun which has the variety that can hardly be beaten. DIY is not connected to any misery or economic necessity. DIY is a treasure, a consummate individualisation and the final step for the personal happiness, and in case of Pepakura, the school of technical dexterity, accuracy and concentration as well as the connection of paper-craft-sheets fun and modern computer technology.

DIY – The Pepakura-Designer

Like do-it-yourself. Everyone can start at a level of his own ability and with the increasing technical competence at DIY, the crafting program is gradable without any stages. The principle of Pepakura is simple: The crafting trend is from Japan, there is a huge variety of cut-out-sheets, which are available for download as PDF-files, can be printed out and builded up. As this may not be enough for the true DIY craftsman, he can use the option to apply his self-created 3D models to a special Pepakura Designer, which turns the 3D model into a cut-out-sheet – but this is the very high art.

DIY gifts

Something that old people have an edge over the other people: They want their offsprings` gifts to be DIY gifts. No one else is able to understand this wish. Of course DIY gifts making is a pedagogically valuable activity but the results are rarely usable on holidays or usable more than twice, mostly they are not usuable at all. The change comes in the form of Pepakura: Those who use Pepakura for creating DIY gifts can consider personal preferences and predilections of the prospective presentee for their DIY gifts. Whether the well known ships, motorcycle or car models, sailplanes which are really able to sail, small complex machines, figures and window decoration matching to the season, masks, animals, dragons...

DIY figures

...the Lion’s share of Pepakura craft instruction is the figures of all kinds. One can create DIY animals, DIY dragons, famous DIY comic heroes, DIY wedding figures, DIY mythical figures and even DIY chess figures. With Pepakura creation, a small DIY landscape pictures is possible or one can produce an impressive picture of the season (especially in the Japanese spring - this is a popular subject) and even whole DIY buildings are possible. There are no limits for the imagination, just these which are set by individual technical abilities. For example those who want to create a DIY Pepakura private house should first practice with the existing Pepakura DIY buildings before building their own dream castle or similar things. One can create complete DIY castles, a complete DIY farm or even a zoo.

...and all this with small equipment

What You need to have at home to give Pepakura DIY work a try? A working printer, craft scissors, paper, craft paste and a little patience. One simply downloads a Pepakura pattern, prints it out and starts to craft. It could not be simpler – and hardly cheaper. Who wants to create his own DIY 3D models, needs a bit of experience and suitable software, but those who already found 3D models in the internet, can with the help of Pepakura, work on them, print them out and...build them up in the DIY way.
